Sexy Saturday: Streiflichter

sexy saturday: streiflichter

Welcome to Sexy Saturday, a Somewhere Books series.  On Saturdays, we highlight a (usually funny or campy) vintage image or magazine.  Don’t worry, it won’t be extremely graphic; but it might get kinda sexy.

This image is from the German photography book Streiflichter, by Dieter Bachnick. It was published in 1985 by Trifolium. Ya, it’s cheesy (especially the porn-y mustache), but his tattoo is pretty adorable.

Meet Rick, the cowboy. He’s featured in the very first issue of Bronc magazine (spring 1981), from the publishers of Blueboy magazine. Bronc magazine is dedicated to cowboys and “western action” only.

Enjoy!

Sexy Saturday: Van Man

Welcome to Sexy Saturday, a Somewhere Books series.  On Saturdays, we highlight a (usually funny or campy) vintage image or magazine.  Don’t worry, it won’t be extremely graphic; but it might get kinda sexy.

Today’s sexy spread is from the very first monthly issue of Numbers magazine, from April 1978. The cover boy is “Van Man”; apparently, he “drives you up the wall” with his torn jean jacket and strategically unbuttoned trousers.

Maybe a guy living in a van didn’t have quite the same connotations in 1978 as it does today, but you have to admit that it’s kind of creepy. On a side note, the pictures were taken by a photographer called “Sodoma.” I’m sure you’re familiar with his work.

Sexy Saturday: Dear Mom

Sexy Saturday: Dear Mom

Welcome to Sexy Saturday, a Somewhere Books series.  Every Saturday (or Sunday, this week), we highlight a (usually funny or campy) vintage image or magazine.  Don’t worry, it won’t be extremely graphic; but it might get kinda sexy.

This week’s images are from the August 1981 issue of In Touch for Men magazine. How nice of this young man to write a letter to his mom, for the cover of a porn-y gay magazine.

Yet, we discover inside (and in the image below) that this all-American boy is actually French-speaking. As I’ve stated before, no one was reading the words in these magazines.

Enjoy!

Welcome to Sexy Saturday, a Somewhere Books series.  Every Saturday, we highlight a (usually funny or campy) vintage image or magazine.  Don’t worry, it won’t be extremely graphic; but it might get kinda sexy.

This week’s images are from a 1982 issue of Drummer magazine, a gay leather magazine. Check out this naughty Eagle Scout, drinkin’ beer and smokin’ a cigarette! The pages that follow are pretty saucy, so I didn’t include those; but you get the idea.

Enjoy!

Sexy Saturday: Lucky

Welcome to Sexy Saturday, a Somewhere Books series.  Every Saturday, we highlight a (usually funny or campy) vintage image or magazine.  Don’t worry, it won’t be extremely graphic; but it might get kinda sexy.

This week, it’s a page from In Touch (“I.T.“) magazine, from January 1982. Here’s the text of the page, in case you can’t read it:

We know nothing about Lucky except that he has “Mike” tattooed on his arm. (His name? . . . or a special friend’s?) What we do know is that here is a body that Botticelli should have painted and a face that Caravaggio did, sweetness with a touch of craft, fallen angelic beauty brought down to earth. All poetry aside, here is a street boy who looks extremely available. Lucky didn’t get his nickname by being an altar boy, after all. But he’s a tender 18-year-0ld, getting his act together, or something like that, in New York City, throwing the dice, spinning the wheels, lighting up jackpots. Winner take all. Baby needs shoes. These slots are hot.

When you’re done rolling your eyes, enjoy the photos!

Sexy Saturday: Young Adonis

Sexy Saturday: Young Adonis

Welcome to Sexy Saturday, a Somewhere Books series.  Every Saturday, we highlight a (usually funny or campy) vintage image or magazine.  Don’t worry, it won’t be extremely graphic; but it might get kinda sexy.

This week’s images come from the March 1963 issue of Young Adonis, a male physique pictorial magazine. It features both color and black/white images of mostly nude young men, usually in posing straps. The guys in these pictures are adorable, and the magazine tries to present a happy-go-lucky vibe, rather than a sultry, “I’m-posing-for-the-camera-enticingly” look. Usually.

The last image is of the magazine’s back cover. It features 16 “handy wallet-size photos” of the magazine’s top stars. You know you want to collect them all!

Enjoy these images, and check out the Somewhere Books online store to get your hands on a copy.
